Allow me to (re)introduce myself, my name’s Simmone…

I never thought in a billion years I would start a blog. To be quite honest, I’m a pretty private person and not a hug fan of the spotlight (unless it’s on a stage of course). However, over the last couple of weeks I’ve felt the need to do this. And here’s why..

Both during and after my time dancing for the Golden State Warriors, I’ve found myself constantly defending not only this world but my own character. Whether it’s the dreaded “Did you even get paid when you were a cheerleader?” or the famous “Did you ever date the players?”… two things were certain: One, people are intrigued by this life and two, there’s always been such a huge misconception of pro dancers and cheerleaders out there.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m fully aware of the issues in this industry, and we’ll totally save those conversations for another day! What’s clear to me now is that people fill their minds with their own reality of what a pro dancers life is like and then apply every and any stereotypes to who they think we are as people.

I remember sitting in the audience for a basketball game as a fan, when the dancers came on. I ended up over hearing a conversation that left me completely puzzled

A guy was sitting next to his friends spewing all these bizarre “facts” about the dance team. Anything from how the dance team got paid $6 hr just for games, didn’t get paid for rehearsals, and weren’t allowed to have full time jobs or boyfriends and he knew this for sure because his girlfriends dog’s brother owners best friend (or something along those lines) told him. Now I’m not here to dispute his knowledge but I wanted to scream “honey, your facts and your girlfriends dog’s brother’s owner’s best friend are trash!”. Of course I kept quiet while baffled with how he truly believed what he was saying, but this goes to show that every one thinks they know what it’s like when in reality they have no clue.

Which leads me to this blog. This is for us by us.

I purposely wanted to share the platform of this little growing company of mine, Simma Wear, with all current, former, and even aspiring dancers to share their stories. To educate the world and show we are so much bigger than red lips and Swarvoski cystals. The world may not know but can we really blame them for not knowing since we haven’t shown them?

This blog will feature and show case the real lives of the talented, educated, hard working ladies we are and start the platform we deserve. No fan pages, organizations or media outlets telling our stories but us telling our own. I’m making it a point to feature dancers all over the US as we all have different experiences and will cover everything from dance, beauty, fitness, inspiration and everything in between!

So come join this ride with me and all the other pro dancers out there. I would love to hear from you in the comments below and let me know what if any topics you’d like us to cover. So don’t be shy…we’re the friendly ones over here :)

Oh, and if you haven’t heard it yet or enough, I’m proud of you. I’m proud of all of us and can't wait to share our stories.

Until next time ladies!

Simmone
